Please note:
Outlook Express cannot filter messages if you use the IMAP protocol to check your e-mail. If you use IMAP, you will need to use the web-based Spam Assassin filter. Go back to the Spam Assassin page and click on the Webmail (TWIG or IMP) or Outlook Express IMAP link.
  1. Create a folder to hold the spam messages, with File, New, Folder. Give it a descriptive name like Spam. Click OK.
  2. Open Tools, Message Rules, Mail. If you already have some mail rules, you will be prompted to click New to create a new mail rule. If this is your first mail rule, skip directly to the next step.
  3. On the New Mail Rule panel, check the checkboxes labeled: Where the Subject line contains specific words and Move it to the specified folder. In the Rule Description box, click contains specific words. Enter ***SPAM***, click Add, and click OK.  Click specified folder, select your Spam folder, and click OK. Finally, type in a descriptive name for your filter, like Spam Filter. When finished, your New Mail Rule should look like this one:

  4. If your mail rule looks like the one above, click OK to close the New Mail Rule box, then OK to close the Message Rules box.

Periodically check your Spam folder for unsolicted commercial messages, and delete them.
