  • Our evacuation began at 10:30PM on Wednesday, September 10 as it became clear that the storm was headed for Houston. We left the night before mandatory evacuations would be ordered so that we could avoid the traffic. Our family went in two groups (one to Texarkana, AR and the other to Longview, TX).
  • We arrived in Longview around 4:30AM the next morning.
  • By Thursday afternoon mandatory evacuations had been ordered for the Clear Lake are due to the threat of a 20-25ft storm surge.

  • Storm surge affected a wide area from Surfside, TX (west of Galveston) to Lake Charles, LA.
  • Galveston sustained heavy flooding along with portions of Orange and Bridge City to the east and many communities along Galveston Bay such as Kemah, Seabrook, and Nassau Bay.
  • Communities along the Bolivar Peninsula were devastated.
  • One day after the storm, a cold front moving through Houston triggered 10 inches of rain that flooded parts of the city.
  • Over 2.2 million people were without power in Houston. Electricity was not restored to all parts of the city until October 2.
  • Significant ower outages occured as far north as Ohio.
  • Our power returned on September 16 followed by Comcast services a few days later.
  • Our power Traffic lights were out all over town for many days leading to 2+ hour commutes to work.
